Process

Over the course of 7 weeks, our group encountered various challenges and successes. Developing a compelling idea proved to be a formidable task, as we initially perceived our concepts as either dull, cliché, or already explored.

It became evident that the issue wasn't inherent dullness but rather a need for more depth. Recognizing this, we dedicated efforts to elaborate and refine our ideas, leading to the inception of our project: Emotional Entities.

In response to these challenges, we engaged in a thorough process of trying out different versions and experimenting with our visuals. Each team member explored diverse ways to visually express our emotions, pushing the creative boundaries to find the most resonant representation. Despite the initial difficulties, this iterative journey became a valuable learning experience.

As we delved into the nuances of the software, Touch Designer, we gradually developed a deeper understanding of its capabilities. The hurdles we faced transformed into opportunities for growth, fostering a collective familiarity with the software. This newfound knowledge empowered us to fully leverage Touch Designer, allowing us to bring our emotional entities to life in a visually compelling manner.

Background

Emotional Entities is a visionary project that originated from the idea of recording personal diaries. The project aims to revolutionize how people capture their emotions by introducing a new, futuristic, and visually engaging approach.

Unlike traditional written diaries, "Emotional Entities" leverages innovative visual elements to transform the way individuals express and reflect on their emotions.

Objective

From this project, we are able to explore the complexity of human emotions, creating a sense of connection and shared experience to resonate with each other in emotional content.

By transforming them into real life, we hope to seek anyone who observes our visual arts to find them meaningful and immersive as an experience.

Approach

After collecting the data of the emotions we feel, we transformed them into a generative code, making use of Touch Designer as a tool to make our emotions come alive, creating a more symbolic representation of our emotions, using colors, shapes, movements, textures, and speeds to represent our different feelings that go beyond words.

Data Collections

During the span of five days, our approach involved utilizing Google Forms to systematically capture a diverse spectrum of emotions, random thoughts, and the wide array of feelings evoked by these contemplations. This encompassed a range from positive emotions such as happiness and gratitude to the more complex and nuanced sentiments of confusion, sadness, and even disgust.

Once the emotional data was gathered, we took the crucial step of categorizing these thoughts into three distinct groups: positive, negative, and neutral, providing a structured foundation for our subsequent creative process. After gathering our emotions, We transformed our emotions into visuals by manipulating textures, colors, shapes, and movements. Adjusting high and low exponents, our aim was to create a clear contrast that vividly showcases the complexities of everyday emotions.

  • Our Thoughts

    Artefact

We started our creative process by selecting the heart shape as a foundational symbol, envisioning it as the underlying structure or skeleton that embodies our emotions. This choice served as a metaphorical canvas for the transformation of our feelings. We individually crafted five distinct variations each, capturing our unique perspectives on the emotions experienced throughout each day.

This collaborative effort resulted in a collection of 15 visuals in total. These visuals not only showcased the intricate interplay of shapes within the heart but also became a vibrant representation of the diverse range of personalities and emotions that unfolded over the span of five days.

From there, the visuals are transformed into a hologram with a mix of our individual emotions. The holographic display serves as a medium to project the depth and complexity of our feelings, creating an immersive experience that goes beyond the confines of a two-dimensional screen.

We want our emotions to resonate more profoundly, allowing viewers to engage with the holographic projections in a way that intensifies the connection between the visual representation and their own emotional experiences. This innovative approach not only adds a layer of interactivity but also amplifies the overall impact of the artistic expression.

    Conclusion

Facing these challenges, we engaged in a thorough process of experimenting with different visual expressions. Each team member explored diverse ways to represent our emotions visually, pushing creative boundaries. Despite initial difficulties, this iterative journey became a valuable learning experience. Delving into the nuances of Touch Designer, we gained a deeper understanding of its capabilities.

The initial hurdles transformed into opportunities for collective growth, enabling us to leverage Touch Designer fully and bring Emotional Entities to life in a visually compelling manner. In essence, our 7-week journey reflects not only challenges but also the triumph of perseverance, learning, and the creation of Emotional Entities.
